“KEEP CALM AND HAVE SOME FUN” @barcelonababies

This activity, is simple but a lot of fun. Cut out lots of different letters and place them on the floor. Ask your child to close their eyes, and choose a letter. Once they have chosen, they have to run around the house looking for something that begins with that letter. My 7 year old and his 3 year old brother loved this game. We played it in English, but can be played in what ever language you wish. We made it more competitive by using a 1 minute timer, so by the time they are back with the item, it was like they had done a work out…Educational and active!! This activity could also be done with numbers for younger children.

Here is another fun activity to do with kids and help them with their language skills. All you need is magnetic alphabet letters from the fridge and magnets and you can start “fishing” .

Place the letters on the floor. The kids take it in turn to catch a letter. They then tell you what it is, what sound it makes and see if they can write a word that begins with that letter.

For my youngest (aged 3) I asked him to catch different colours, and the first 5 letters of the alphabet. Enjoy!!

This game is great fun!! Get whatever items you have in the house, and arrange them how you wish. Ask your child to then describe what they see, the position of all the items, the size of the items, where the items have been placed. Then an adult or an older child (5+) draws what the child is describing, and sees how good their descriptive skills are!!
